3 Tips to Unlocking the Power of Your Mind

The only difference between the highest achievers and you or I is that the high achievers understand how to unlock their full potential within their minds. Firstly you need to understand that your mind works for you, you don't work for it! Our mind has one job and one job only...to keep us safe! Our mind's job is to help us feel connected and avoid rejection at all costs.

Picture this: you are playing in the schoolyard and you want to play with this other group of classmates that are looking like they are having so much fun. You approach one of the girls in the group and ask if you can join in the game. The girl looks you up and down, then looks back at her friends playing and decides that for whatever reason, you don’t ‘fit’ the group. Her facial expression tells it all. You are devastated. After school, your mom asks you how was your day at school and you confide in her and share with her what happened in the schoolyard. Your mom, of course, gives you compassion and tells you that those girls are missing out if they don’t want to include you in their group.

So later in the week, you see another group of girls having fun on the school grounds and repeat the same thing. Approaching the group with a friendly smile, you ask if you can join in with them, and once again, they reject you. Pure devastation again! You leave the school grounds feeling empty, lonely, and unwanted.

How many times do you think you would do this before you just gave up because you just couldn't handle the feelings of being rejected over and over again? The key is that finding this feeling of being connected with others is just a numbers game. The more we do something, the better we get. The more we feel connected with others, the more we connect with even more people.

If you want to unlock the power of your mind it’s important that you don’t see rejection as a life-threatening event, or that it will ultimately kill you. Rejection a lot of the time will make you stronger and more resilient.

There are 3 things that you can do, very unnatural at first, and then when you do them unnaturally enough times and they become natural and engrained within you.

1. People who succeed do what they don’t want to do to get to where they want to be.

Don’t allow yourself to be set back from rejection. Highly successful people don’t allow this to be a setback. If they didn’t win the competition, maybe 2nd or 3rd either, they don’t let this get in their way of coming back and trying again and again. Bouncing back from failure doesn’t mean you don’t fail, it means how quickly you get right back up again, you do not let rejection in! By not taking ‘No’ as rejection, you will come back and move forward.

People who succeed are always prepared to consistently do what they don’t want to do to get where they want to be and commit to doing it first. People who fail, without even knowing it, will give up on their dreams faster than doing what they don’t want to do.

To unlock your potential to do what you want to do, you have to be prepared to do what you DO NOT want to do. If you want to put on those jeans you used to love and you loved the way you looked in them but now they don’t fit, you have to do what you don’t want to do; which is pass on the processed foods, sugary treats, pastries and fast food drive-thrus, ice cream, chocolate bars, and potato chips. You need to say to yourself that ‘I have to give up the cookies and ice-cream to get into those jeans again the healthy way.’ If you want to give motivational speeches on stage, you do what you don’t do naturally in order to get where you want to be, and you do get there! You must do what you don’t want to do FIRST in order to get what you DO want! By doing what you don’t want to do first in your day, this is what makes you feel like a winner!

2. Come back from rejection

Look at Meryl Streep, Whippie Goldberg; many many people have been rejected and have come back from that to have success. It’s not about the rejection, it’s what you do about the rejection, how you handle it! Seeing it as a delay in your goal not a denial in your goal that you want to achieve. We have a huge ability to unlock the potential of our minds with this mindset.

Some don’t want to hear this but, people who make it take action every single day in the direction of their goals and dreams.

If you take action every day in the direction of your goals you can only succeed. So, do what you don’t want to do FIRST!

Don’t take “no” for an answer, come back from rejection.

Take action every day in the direction of your goals.

Do not allow destructive criticism to slow you down-we all get criticized, we all hear mean things. (I hate that product, I hated that book, I hated you)

What you do to decide what you do with that experience you are having will SHAPE your life! It’s not the events that affect you, it’s actually the meaning you attach to them.

3. Your mind listens to every word you say

Every word you say, every thought you think is a blueprint that your mind and your body must work to meet. If you say “if I do that again I will get rejected”, “I could never do that again because it would destroy me”, “I could never do that because I could never handle the rejection”, “that’s no good for me because I am no good with confrontation”, “I’m not good when the attention is on me”. When you say these things you are stating a blueprint. Your mind and body then have no choice but to turn into that blueprint and make it true.

One person can say for example they loved dogs. They are so loyal, amazing, man’s best friends. I could never live life without having a dog. Another person can say, I don’t like dogs. They are vicious, unpredictable, you never know when they will turn on you.

You get to choose what you say about anything. If you really want to unlock your true potential in your mind, know that your potential expands as you move towards it. You have no idea what your true potential is because as you move towards it, it moves again. When your mind moves, it never moves back. This is why Olympic athletes break records. An Olympic athlete breaks the same record, then someone else breaks it.

You don’t have to know what your potential is, and some people don’t. But you do need to know this: Your potential expands as you move towards it, and then it expands again as you keep moving forward.

If you want to unlock the phenomenal potential of your mind you want to talk to your mind and tell it: “Hey mind, this is what I want from my life, this is what I insist on, this is what I require of myself. I require taking action every day. If I don’t want to do something, I want to do it first. That’s what winners do and I want to be a winner! I require myself to come back from rejection, to take action every day to go where I want to go. To do what I don’t want to do and say to myself that I like this, I’ve chosen this, I get to do this. Your mind then doesn’t stop and asks itself is this true or isn’t it true? Is this a useful or not useful belief; is this healthy or unhealthy? Your mind will let it in! Positive or negative, good or bad. Think about what you want exactly. Tell your mind what you want!

Are you willing to pay the price? You must be willing to pay the price for doing the things you don’t want to do to get where you want to go, even when it’s uncomfortable and you don’t want to do it! Keep your eye on the prize. Stay focused on the vision in your mind. Then when you get to where you want to be, you will forget the price you paid, but you MUST be willing to pay the price.

Do it first. Come back from rejection. Come back from ‘no’. Take action everyday in the direction of your goals and talk to your mind like it’s your personal assistant. Telling it exactly what you expect and want!

Do it first. Come back from rejection. Come back from ‘no’. Take action every day in the direction of your goals and talk to your mind like it’s your personal assistant. Telling it exactly what you expect and want! You insist on it. Demand it of yourself. Give it to yourself. You must act in a way that is utterly consistent with the way you define yourself. Define yourself as a winner. Adopt those habits until it is like you have always had them. Make those habits your own. When you do this you will unlock the ultimate potential power of your mind now and for the rest of your life.

Your mind doesn’t stop to agree or disagree, it just accepts it. But when you say in one sentence that you want to for example skip the ice cream or cake because you want to have a flatter stomach then your mind says OK. But if you tell yourself that it’s so difficult to pass on the cake or ice cream because it tastes so good, that you don’t want to eat apples; that sugary, processed foods are your friend and you love them. Then in another breath, you say you want to be fit and healthier then what happens is your mind is confused.

People that succeed focus on what they want and say ‘whatever the price, I will pay it’. Make the blueprint, make it crystal clear, and commit to telling yourself and reminding yourself that you are committed to this goal.

Remember, you have no idea what you are truly capable of; but you do know that when you move forward towards your goals and take action, you will not go back to where you don’t want to be!
